Graded Unit 2 - AHA: target market

Identification of the Target Market

The target market is wide, as the company tries to reach out to potential service-users, their families, other professional workers and funders. The funders’ group includes decision-makers in Local Authorities and Health Boards, and the local community. Fund-raising and promotional activities are aimed at the local community, communicating their ethos, aims and services to the public.

It is important that the style and levels meets the target audience; therefore some research and statistics would be important about what style is the most adequate and relevant.

Graded Unit 2 - AHA: context for the project

The context for the project

My project would consist of creating a corporate identity for Abercrombie Housing Association, using maximum 3 colours. It would provide a fresh image of the association and raise their profile. In addition, the project requires a branded item for a promotional or fund-raising activity that would help them continue to offer service-users the highest standards of support and facilities.

As the target market is wide, it is essential to find the right style for the logo and the whole corporate identity. I would go for a decent, sophisticated but simple style, trying to avoid any clichés using houses, human figures or hands. The stationery would have the same colours as the logo, but probably printed on colour paper. As for the website, it should be simple and visible, easy to navigate on. All primary navigation pages will be designed and presented as final visuals. The branded item for a promotional activity should be something creative and useful that reflects the ethos of the company.

A very important point is that AHA does not wish their charitable activities to suggest that their clients are needy or helpless. It is essential that the corporate identity suggests that they stress their ethos of personal independence and participation in the community. This could be obtained by using such imagery, colours or having a tagine alongside the logo. A typographic solution for the logo should be the primary choice.

The promotion would be aimed at potential service-users, their families and professionals. It would also have a fund-raising part. The promotional item would be a key ring, having the company’s logo on it that would be given as a gift to any enquirer. It would also suggest the services of the association: providing accommodation.

Graded Unit 2 - AHA: interpretation

Abercrombie Housing Association Rebrand
Interpretation of the brief

The project requires a rebrand for Abercrombie Housing Association (AHA) that should be suitable for the chosen target market. This would include the corporate identity with logo and stationery set (letterhead, compliment slip and business card) all in maximum of 3 colours; sitemap and website (working or visuals only); branded item for a promotional or fund-raising activity.

AHA provides accommodation and support care for clients with a range of support needs: learning disabilities, communication difficulties, physical disabilities, dementia, autism and autistic spectrum disorder. They do not stress that their clients are needy, but they encourage them to be as independent as possible and to play a role in their community offered by the association.

The project must include development process from annotated mood boards to sketchbooks with conceptual roughs and visuals. Research of at least 3 x A3 sheets is essential as well as 4 concepts developed in sketching stage. The logo and brand should reflect the company’s support for independence and socialization. The association is willing to start a fund-raising campaign and promotion for their company, and this should include a branded item and would include a tagline alongside the logo.

The target market consists of potential service-users, their families and other professional workers.

The project must include the following:
o   corporate identity;
o   stationery set (A4 letterhead, 1/3 A4 compliment slip, business card);
o   sitemap for website;
o   fully functional website (supplied on CD/DVD) or visuals for website;
o   branded item for a promotional or fund-raising activity;
o   suitable management system of all files and assets.
